HEART: Serving Our Neighbors in Crisis is a documentary short examining Durham, North Carolina’s unarmed crisis response program, which pairs social workers with first responders for 911 calls involving mental illness and addiction.
As editor, I shaped the film from deeply personal, vérité-style footage—working with intimate, handheld camera work that followed responders and community members through high-stakes, emotionally charged situations, including ride-alongs with police. The edit focused on preserving immediacy and trust, allowing moments to unfold without sensationalism while maintaining narrative clarity and emotional grounding.
